Is It Normal to Feel Depressed Before My Period?
Cheeky Team
It is normal to experience mood swings throughout your menstrual cycle, but if you consistently feel depressed before your period you may have premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Around 10% of people with periods have PMDD, so you are definitely not alone. PMDD can include feelings of depression, anxiety, irritability, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, insomnia, binge eating, and headaches. This happens because of the drop in estrogen and progesterone levels after ovulation.
Talk to your doctor if you are experiencing these symptoms. They may prescribe birth control or antidepressants to alleviate symptoms.
